“The cable on my sliding door of my 2006 Toyota Sienna snapped when I pushed the button to close the automatic door. This resulted in a sharp piece of cable sticking out towards my child who was sitting in his car seat. I've taken the car to Toyota and they said it was not covered under warranty even though I have an extended warranty.”

NHTSA complaint #10347209, filed 2010-08, 77,500 miles

“The gas struts on the manual liftgate on my Toyota Sienna have failed and they are only recalling to power struts. But if they are the same struts used on the power and manual liftgate then they need to be included in the recall also. The liftgate itself is very heavy and has nearly smashed one of my children, it could have cut her in half”

NHTSA complaint #10260875, filed 2009-03, 51,000 miles

“Toyota Sienna both sliding door mechanisms do not work unable to open doors from inside or out dealer says need to oil locks. My children have to crawl in through the hatch, safety hazard how do they get out in event of accident. We had the same issue on last Sienna. All our friends with siennas have experienced similar problems.”

“Drivers side rear sliding door will not open...cost to replace from Toyota was approx $500 parts. Door just all of a sudden wait working around 55k miles. Now the passenger side door is not working (sliding) same symptoms. Car only has 84k miles on it. “We have a 2006 Toyota Sienna. We have had the left sliding door latch replaced twice. We have had the right sliding door latch replaced once. The left one has failed once again. Everytime it fails my wife has been driving and the left sliding door has opened when the van is in motion. Toyota knows about the problem and there have been no recalls yet. I have already spent $1700 on maintenance on these doors.”
