“Driving on the freeway when I heard what sounded like a gunshot. I kept looking around to see what had hit me. It sounded like it came from the right side of my truck. I couldn't see anything amiss. I started hearing crackling when my hearing cleared up a little. I drew back the moonroof cover to find that the glass had shattered. I don't recall seeing any debris strike the truck. I've saved video on my dash cam and can't see anything from the roadway coming at the truck during that time.”
NHTSA complaint #11665049, filed 2025-06“We were driving down the highway and there was a startling loud explosion and I pulled the vehicle to the side of the road for inspection. I discovered that the rear panoramic sunroof had completely shattered, with no obvious cause. There were no other vehicles around. It was sunny and 90 degree F ambient air temperature outside. The air conditioner was running at the time. Fortunately the headliner screen was closed, otherwise the rear passengers may have been showered with broken glass.”
NHTSA complaint #11674241, filed 2025-07“I was driving down the freeway at about 70MPH when the sunroof exploded above me. The temperature outside was about 70F in Phoenix. Nothing hit the truck. Chunks of glass rained down in moon roof lining and on the bed of the truck.”
NHTSA complaint #11530356, filed 2023-07“I brought my Toyota Tundra to Gullo Toyota of Conroe for a routine service and a recall software update. The truck went in with a perfectly functioning front camera, and it came back with the camera completely blurry. The dealership is only 10 minutes from my home — I noticed the issue the moment I pulled into my garage. I assumed the camera was dirty and cleaned it several times, but nothing changed. When I called the dealership, the service advisor told me that the recall software update “tends to do that” to Tundra cameras. …”
NHTSA complaint #11744575, filed 2026-06“This vehicle has tow mirrors that are located way too high for the driver to see over them - I'm 5'10 and my son is 6'0 and neither of us can see over these mirrors. Over the past year I have had multiple close calls because of the very large blind spot created by the tow mirrors on this vehicle. There is also excessive plastic around the mirror that excerbates the problem. It is only a period of time before a serious accident or a pedestrian collision will happen because of this manuracturing/design defect. Very concerned and disappointed. …”
