“After coming to a stop at a STOP sign, the vehicle accelerated unintentionally, crossing the highway and hitting a parked car, causing injuries and totaling my vehicle. While my vehicle sustained a crumbled chassis, no airbags were deployed, causing injuries to the driver and passenger. Additionally, the emergency automatic brakes did not stop the car from ploughing into the parked car. The car was examined by the insurance carrier (AAA) and Toyota (the manufacturer), who sent out a technician to read the CDR data. The report was generated by BOSCH (a 3rd party hired by Toyota). …”

NHTSA complaint #11759450, filed 2026-08

“After applying the brakes in a sudden situation, the automatic emergency braking came on but the car didn't stop. The brake pedal was pushed all the way to the floor board but the car didn't stop and crashed into the vehicle in front. This happened once before but didn't end in a crash. This was a total brake failure.”

“The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Venza. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 10-20 making a left turn, a Land Rover veered in her path, and she crashed. The auto collision system did not engage. The brakes were applied but failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. There were no reported injuries, fire or air bag deployment, or police reports filed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,500. The VIN was not available.”
