“First time was end of May and the car went into park while driving down the road and stayed stuck in park. Could not change gears. Eventually the entire car shut down and even hazard lights did not work. Second time I was parked at my office and when I got back to my car, it again would not shift out of park. It would not move into any gear.”

NHTSA complaint #11531496, filed 2023-07

“While driving at approximately 8:00 AM in active traffic, the vehicle suddenly would not accelerate beyond approximately 20 mph. Warning messages appeared on the dashboard stating “Electric Motor Power Reduced” and “Driver Monitoring System Inoperative.” The vehicle lost normal propulsion power without warning. This occurred in the middle of the roadway and created a serious safety hazard, as I was unable to maintain the speed of surrounding traffic. Vehicles behind me had to slow abruptly, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision. …”

NHTSA complaint #11721543, filed 2026-03

“The contact owns a 2023 Vinfast VF8. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 30 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power and came to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the vehicle was repaired but the contact was not provided a diagnostic report nor the repair information. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.”
