“Car was parked in carport and could not get it out of park . Called dealer and he said I would have to get it towed to dealer. I did that and they had to replace cable that connects to brake pedal for safety so you cannot put in gear without brake pedal depressed. I was lucky car was in my driveway in a safe place rather than while traveling. It was out of warranty and I had to pay for towing and cable replacement.”

NHTSA complaint #10631260, filed 2014-09, 45,412 miles

“Overheating and dangerous, quick pulsation of brake rotors on my 2008 Chevrolet has always been a constant and stressful experience when driving in hilly, mountainous country. I had the same problem with a 2001 Impala. Gm has got to address this inherent weakness in the Impala's braking system.”

NHTSA complaint #10325339, filed 2010-04, 20,000 miles

“I was exciting an off ramp when I swerved to avoid another vehicle, completely lost control of vehicle crashed had no brakes and keys will not come out of the ignition. My vehicle is not drivable.”

NHTSA complaint #10684217, filed 2015-02, 96,187 miles

“I was driving about 35 MPH the entire car system shut off , no warning lights came, I rolled into a dirt parking lot, and turned the key off, sat there for a little while then continue to work, had to take alternate route, didn't know when or if it would happen again. It did happen again later that afternoon, while autozone tech was checking my battery. It was frightening, thank god!! Traffic was light.I live where a lot of big rigs come and go, I mostly drive freeways, but that day I had to change my route.”

NHTSA complaint #10557525, filed 2013-12, 107,122 miles

“1. 2008 Chevrolet Impala, while driving down inclines the front disc brakes heat up and shake violently. The disk are too small to dissipate the heat. 2. Condition occurs while driving down hills. 3. Gm dealer turned disc 1 time under warranty and told me to shift my automatic transmission to a lower gear going down hill. There is much information from owners of GM vehicles on this problem on the internet. The Impala is not the only GM product with this problem due to disk too small.”
