Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Front passenger side seatbelt, it locks up but will not unlock unless you unbuckle it. It has to be unlocked and brought all the way back before it will unlock. I have had it replaced at least three times and it still does not work correctly.”

NHTSA complaint #10046036, filed 2003-11, 1,500 miles

“The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet S10. While driving approximately 35 MPH, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. The contact stated that the airbags did not deploy and the seat belts did not sustain her properly. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10439378, filed 2011-12, 109,000 miles

“Upon applying brakes on ruff or wet roads, the brake pedal jumps and then goes all the way to the floor. Brakes fail. Dealer suggests that I drive only on smooth roads that are dry. They admitted that this is a common problem and that the manufacturer hasn't come up with a solution. Told that it meets standards. I feel this truck is dangerous and I do not want to drive it and risk my life or anyone I might hit. My brother has already been thrown into the dash, while wearing his seat belt. Dealer said belt does not hold when brakes fail.”

NHTSA complaint #751758, filed 2001-09

“Received recall notice 00v228003 in mail, and took vehicle to dealership. Repairs not done due to no appointment. Made an appointment, and came back on that date. Was informed by service manager that no parts were available for seat belt buckles. Contacted manufacturer, who indicated parts only sent if vehicle required it after being inspected by mechanic.”

NHTSA complaint #887271, filed 2001-05

“Gas pedal stuck and brakes were hard to press when trying to slow down. This caused consumer to hit a tree. Also, airbags did not deploy, and drivers side seat belt did not properly restrain. It did not lock into position, causing consumer to sustain a head injury. Dealer has not been able to duplicate the problem.”
