“Shifted truck into reverse while plowing my driveway, truck made a large snap sound in front end and wouldn't move - oil was dispersed all over the ground. In the end - front yoke broke, causing drive shaft to hit oil filter and busting it off. Truck was under warranty so no cost but this is dangerous. Had I been moving this could have caused a truck to flip end for end.”
NHTSA complaint #10714382, filed 2015-05, 12,500 miles“The TCM malfunctioned. After being replaced the vehicle still didn't perform as it did before the repair. I have researched this issue with all Chevrolet trucks from various years. There are multiple blogs from owners of these trucks that show the extent of the issue. I cannot afford to pay $ 1000.00 to fix a problem that GM knows that has existed for years. This is a serious problem if you are driving and the truck looses power; especially when you're going down hill traveling at a high rate of speed and your transmission doesn't function properly. …”
NHTSA complaint #11115631, filed 2018-08, 98,700 miles“The four wheel drive system broke, the yoke or universal joint gave out at the front differential. The dealer and general motors are saying it had to be due to working the truck to hard, or beyond the abilities of the truck. No one took any steps to see if any of these parts had a defect, the question of a possible defected part was raised, and quickly dismissed!!!!!! This my warning to any one who is thinking of buying a GM truck. Do you really have any warranty coverage?”
NHTSA complaint #10577570, filed 2014-04, 1,900 miles“When pulling out into busy traffic the TCM quit and lost all power to the wheels. Could not move. Luckily the traffic seen we had a issue and swerved to go around us. We found out later this has been a huge issue for GM with TCM on units like mine. If traffic would not have been paying attention they would have hit us and caused injuries to my family and probably theirs. Glad we were not pulling out onto a highway with high speed traffic.”
NHTSA complaint #11545449, filed 2023-09“The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while her husband was driving 45 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the contact lost control of the vehicle. The driver was unable to shift gear. The driver stated that the vehicle hesitated and failed to accelerate over 20 MPH. The driver was able to continue driving to the residence. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the transmission control module (TCM) needed to be replaced. …”
