Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Over the last month (starting around july 6 but continuing today), when I shift my car to park and attempt to turn it off, my VOLT displays the message shift to park and will not fully turn off. This results in me not being able to lock my car and the lights stay on. The message appears randomly about 50-75% of my attempts to turn off the car. The car is always stationary of course and in park. To fix it, I will depress the shifter button a few times...or hit the ignition button again, shift to drive, and back to park. …”

NHTSA complaint #11343771, filed 2020-08, 26,000 miles

“While attempting to turn the car off- a message appears saying action required- shift into park . The car is in park and the dash registers that it is in park, the gear shift is locked in park but the system doesn't sense that it is in park and won't let the car shut off. Has progressively gotten worse and more frequent.”

NHTSA complaint #11342122, filed 2020-07, 40,000 miles

“When trying to turn the car off, the instrument panel will say shift to park even though the car is already in park. Then, the car will not turn off. This has happened multiple times, over many days, when the car is stationary, in any location, when you are attempting to turn the car off.”

NHTSA complaint #11340449, filed 2020-07, 33,000 miles

“Chevrolet VOLT cannot be driven in deep snow. The car was driven in snow at a speed of one mile per hour covering 6 miles in 6 hours after first snow in nyc nov 15, 2018. The protective under carriage panel that covers the electrical and tubing becomes brittle and breaks away when impacted.”

NHTSA complaint #11152980, filed 2018-11, 12,000 miles

“Car will not turn off after being put in park and power button pushed to off. The displays reads put car in park to turn off , but the car is already in park. The local Chevrolet dealer said the gear assembly needs to be replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #11222041, filed 2019-06, 14,000 miles
