“Shift assembly malfunction. I put my car in park and tried to turn the car off but it won't. It states that my car need to be put in park when it already is in park. It does this intermittently. Many volts and malibu has this problem and reported online and to you guys. Please have GM put out a recall for this problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11329150, filed 2020-06, 50,000 miles

“When at rest, I shift into park and successfully put the car into park. Then, when I try and turn off the car, I get a message to 'shift to park.' it does not allow me to turn off the car or lock my car, even though I know the car is in park. I have to turn on the car, shift back and forth, and try turning off the car as well. This may have to happen several times, 3-4, before I can finally turn off my car completely.”

NHTSA complaint #11407602, filed 2021-04, 32,500 miles

“Urgent urgent. This is something wrong with the 2017 VOLT. My vehicle caught on fire while driving down the interstate at higher speeds. I have found two others that this has happened too. Gm didn't even investigate before denying liability, they made a determination over photos. All 3 vehicles had over 20k miles on it. Others lives may be in danger. Please investigate.”

NHTSA complaint #11092751, filed 2018-05, 20,000 miles

“At times, the vehicle will not recognize the key fob and will not start, lock, or unlock. This happens seemingly randomly when the vehicle is stationary and off. I can not reproduce the problem, but it happens about 2-3 times a month. It seems that if I get the fob away from the car for about 15 minutes and return, the vehicle then recognizes the key again.”

NHTSA complaint #11018814, filed 2017-08, 5,000 miles

“I opened my rear lift gate to put away my car charger and it slammed closed on it's own. For some reason the rear lift gate would not stay open unless I hold it up. I think this is very dangerous because you expect when you lift the lift gate it stays open on it's own. Everyone should be careful.”

NHTSA complaint #11280231, filed 2019-11, 24,000 miles
