“My 2011 Dodge Durango has trouble starting on the first start. Mechanic said there was a bulletin regarding the issue and informed me that we should try updating the software. That did not work. Durango continues to sputter when it is started. It eventually does start either on its own or after another try. Will attempt another solution at next regularly scheduled service.”

NHTSA complaint #11297576, filed 2020-01, 170,000 miles

“The alternator shorted out with 48000 miles on it. The light came on and my wife drove it 1.5 miles home. Alternator was smoking and completely shorted out/fried. While she managed to get it home this could have easily created an accident had she driven it longer. I am shocked that a failure like this can happen on a car in such a short amount of time.”

NHTSA complaint #10845851, filed 2016-03, 48,800 miles

“There is a known recall for the 2011 Dodge Durango with the 160 amp alternator. We have a 180 amp alternator and experienced the exact same problems as the recalled 160 amp. Our vehicle caught fire after a short drive. Chrysler refuses to include the 180 amp alternator into the existing recall. A short internet search will reveal countless other victims.”

NHTSA complaint #10919404, filed 2016-10, 80,000 miles

“Alternator failed over heating electrical wiring and causing battery and computer chip failure. The problem occurred on the road but I was able to make it to a parking lot. I did smell smoke and felt heat but there was no ignition of fire. My car was completely disabled. No electrical activity. The symptoms are the same as recall #14v634000.”

NHTSA complaint #10853925, filed 2016-04, 98,000 miles

“The dash board will light up and the windsheld wipers will start to go with out doing anything, then the dashboard fails and powers down and then tries to start back up. It caused my Durango to lose power then power back up. I do have a video that I will try to include please excuse the language in it.”
