“The racetrack tail light is not airtight so water gets inside the lamp. This caused an electrical short on the LED boards and smoke filled my car. I contacted Dodge and they said there was nothing they could do for me. My insurance accepted it as a claim and I had the lamp replaced. The old lamp was intermittently lit before going completely out.”

NHTSA complaint #11389924, filed 2021-01, 93,000 miles

“While driving my vehicle at 60 MPH my lights started to flicker on and off. Eventually they stopped but the driver side headlight had never came back on. I replaced the bulb and still nothing. Being on the highways I felt I was causing distractions to other drivers from my headlights malfunctioning and putting myself in danger without having the proper lighting to drive safely.”

NHTSA complaint #11390428, filed 2021-01, 69,561 miles

“When it rains, water collects inside the racetrack tail lights of my 2014 Durango. The problem exist on the rear of the part. The sponge-like gasket is disintegrating. I got it replaced at the dealer for 1,000 $ about 4 months ago, I got water again in the new ones. The LED's are not working anymore when I turn on the lights on.”

NHTSA complaint #11277495, filed 2019-11, 27,961 miles

“I own a 2014 Dodge Durango that has water pooling in the center tail light. I had it replaced 1 year ago and the same problem again. Started collecting water and shorted out. It is an expensive part costing about $1,000. Chrysler will not cover the costs or admit it is a quality issue, although they are on backorder and hard to get. Seams like this is a pretty common problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11075511, filed 2018-02, 46,000 miles

“Water/condensation has entered the racetrack lighting on my Durango. Its currently the rear passenger side. The condensation/water has caused my rear lighting to not work and has begun rusting in the area. Safety concerns are ineffective, disabled lighting necessary for driving and cause an accident. Similar safety concerns have been noted by other owners of this type of vehicle”
