Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Violent shaking of the vehicle. Loud metal clanging type noise. Sudden lack of acceleration. Stalling and failure of power steering at 45 MPH. I was returning home from my son's school in heavy traffic and we almost crashed into a brick wall. Fortunately I was strong enough to maintain enough control of the steering wheel to somewhat safely stop the vehicle on the side of the road.”

NHTSA complaint #10168910, filed 2006-09, 98,486 miles

“We replaced the #6 injector and the fuel pump. Shortly thereafter the car stopped altogether. We had to have it towed to the dealer to have him tell us that it has a broken timing chain and it would probably cost us $5700 to replace the engine. We had it towed home.”

NHTSA complaint #10068912, filed 2004-01, 95,000 miles

“Dt: when gas tank is filled full the gas tank level on the dashboard will drop to empty, and the gas light will illuminate, indicating a need for gas. Had not taken vehicle to dealer or service repair shop. Consumer does not know why this happens, but wishes to file a complaint. Ha not contacted the manufacturer.”

NHTSA complaint #10132446, filed 2005-08, 59,000 miles

“My car stalls when stopped, taken to dealer twice for problem. They finalled replaced the fuel pump after charging me to have computer reprogrammed. Engine stil not ok, but not stalling. When accelerating engine seems to be slipping. The front passenger window was fixed about a month ago and is not working again. Car has been in 2 for new brakes, I have had the rotors replaced and also turned in the 2 years I have owned the car. Car shakes when stopping again, so rotors will need to be turned or replaced again. Why? …”

NHTSA complaint #760899, filed 2002-04

“The contact stated while driving 65 MPH on clear dry roads, the check engine light illuminated constantly, and the vehicle began to jerk. Shortly thereafter, the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted after 40 minutes, and was taken to a private repair shop, where it was determined that the fuel pump had malfunctioned.”
