“With no warning, my 2006 Ford Expedition will lose all power while driving. The light on the control panel comes on saying engine fail safe mode. After coasting to the side of the road, I restart the car and all is fine. I have taken it to two mechanics and they say there is nothing wrong with the car. It has happened twice so far.”
NHTSA complaint #10349685, filed 2010-08, 55,000 miles“Driving vehicle and car shut off. A wrench symbol appeared. After 2 attempts, I was able to get the vehicle restarted. Took car to garage for service and was informed that the computer code which came back was the cruise control circuitry and I would need to take the vehicle to a Ford dealership for service due to the nature of the repair.”
NHTSA complaint #10294525, filed 2009-12, 93,000 miles“My truck went into fail safe mode while on the highway. This caused the truck to stop suddenly with no use of gas pedal but the engine was still running. This almost caused an accident. I was able to drift over and shut the engine off and restart it and it ran fine the rest of the day. Now I am afraid to drive it.”
NHTSA complaint #10259622, filed 2009-02, 46,000 miles“2006 Ford Expedition on 2/2/11 while I was driving on freeway the vehicle goes into engine fail safe mode. Not knowing what this meant I was going to proceed to exit up ahead which was an exit up a hill. When I stepped on the gas I realized the engine was off. I was able to move slightly to the left to stop on the shoulder at the bottom of the exit. This is very dangerous and Ford needs to make a recall before a life is lost!”
NHTSA complaint #10420044, filed 2011-08, 42,000 miles“I was driving my 2006 Ford Expedition & the fail safe engine light came on & that stops the gas pedal from working. You then coast over to the side of the road & turn the truck off & restart it like nothing happened. This has happened 2 times about 3 months apart. …”
