“I was driving my car when all of a sudden the accelerator is not responding and so I need to coast the car to the curve. I called the dealer and so my car was still under my extended warranty and so I took the car in and I was told that they replaced the part this was in march 2009, it is now january 21, 2012 and I had the same problem. The message board reads, check electronic throttle system.”

NHTSA complaint #10444763, filed 2012-01, 76,000 miles

“I was driving my 2005 Ford Expedition eddie bauer edition when I started to make a turn. Suddenly the vehicle stopped moving and an indicator light stating engine fail safe mode came on. During the turn, a vehicle was coming toward me and I barely had enough time to get my vehicle out of the lane before I got hit. I had to stop my vehicle, put it in park (while sitting on the roadway), shut it off, and restart it before I could move again. It ran fine for a couple of days and then it happened to me again while driving. …”

NHTSA complaint #10561395, filed 2014-01, 112,550 miles

“While traveling 50 MPH on busy street car power failed, shutting off completely including loss of power steering. Engine failure light came on. Restarted after that and drove fine. Since then it has occurred 3 times over last month. Last week occurred at when I was attempting to turn with a turn signal but shut off before I could make the turn. This is a life threatening problem and needs to be recalled. Thought it had to do with low gas tank but had plenty of gas last week.”

NHTSA complaint #10377708, filed 2011-01, 60,000 miles

“2005 Ford Expedition with error message of 'check electronic throttle control'. It has happened 5 times now. Engine, steering and braking stop working instantly. I have to shut truck off to restart. All times it has happened while going 60-70 miles an hour on highway. Ford has charged me over $1200 to this day for fixes, but nothing has fixed the problem. They also have no answer as to why it keeps recurring. When they hook it up to the computer, they say there are no error codes.”

NHTSA complaint #10267820, filed 2009-05, 35,000 miles

“Driving on freeway in my 2005 Ford Expedition, when I lost power and brakes and the check engine light came on. Coasted to the side of freeway. Very dangerous incident.”
