“I have a 2002 f250 with less than 5000 miles on it and the gas line started leaking near the filter which is mounted to the frame. I took it to the dealer and they replace the line but I'm concerned because they stated that it rusted out. There is rust starting to form all under the truck.”

NHTSA complaint #10047660, filed 2003-11, 4,370 miles

“One of the vapor valves breaks on the gasoline tank, it is not replaceable so you have to buy a new tank. Ford has obsoleted the tank and it is not available from any place. You can smell the gas vapors when the truck is at rest. I am waiting for it to blow up.”

NHTSA complaint #11039485, filed 2017-10, 152,000 miles

“While driving the mounts that hold the fuel tank failed causing the tank to fall off and drag on the road, eventually wearing a hole in the tank causing the fuel to leak out. Obviously once the gas ran out the vehicle would no longer operate. We were lucky that there was no fire.”

NHTSA complaint #10703883, filed 2015-04, 85,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2002 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being lifted onto a tow truck, fuel began to leak from the middle plastic made fuel tank. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank hoses were faulty. The mechanic determined that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.”

NHTSA complaint #11627461, filed 2024-11, 108,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2002 Ford f250 diesel, 2004 f250 diesel. The contact stated that the fuel tank straps under the rear driver's side of the vehicle were rusted. The manufacturer was contacted and did not provide a remedy. There was no diagnosis or repairs completed on the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was 143,000.”
