Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I along with others are having problems with brake lines rusting out and failing on Ford trucks. My rear brake lines rusted out at the points where the lines are connected to the frame. I have spoken with other Ford truck owners and am hearing similar stories. I own a 2003 Ford f-350 4 wheel drive with a v-10 gas engine. I find it hard to believe that I should have 2 brake lines rust out on a truck that is only 5.5 years old and only has 55k miles on it. My brakes failed early on a sunday morning so I was able to stop my truck before there was an accident. …”

NHTSA complaint #10228003, filed 2008-05, 52,400 miles

“When touching the accelerator vehicle continued to accelerate. The dealer inspected the vehicle, and a buy back was offered. Complaint alleged that problem described was responsible for a rollover crash that occurred on an icy road surface on december 26, 2003. There were no injuries, property damage to the vehicle occurred.”

NHTSA complaint #10092934, filed 2004-09, 35,000 miles

“Have a 2003 f-350 super duty Ford truck.noise in rear brakes upon investigation found that the emergency brake backing plate that the emergency brake shoes attach to was rusted away and the emergency brake shoes and their hard ware fell apart creating a very dangerous situation since super duty trucks carry and tow heavy loads and could cause serious accident.”
