“The key would no longer turn in the ignition, leaving me and my baby niece stranded far away from home. We parked the vehicle and when we returned, we found ourselves stranded, because the ignition lock could no longer be operated. Apparently this is a known problem with Ford Focus locks!”
NHTSA complaint #10935305, filed 2016-12, 80,000 miles“It started with a ticking noise I could hear when it just idled, then I got home started it back up and it made a loud noise like something had fallen into the engine. I shut the car off and then we had somebody look at it they said there was no compression in the # 4 piston. They had said something had fallen off the piston and made a bunch of dents and dangs so now we have to replace the engine. It is in my driveway now waiting to be repaired.”
NHTSA complaint #10262719, filed 2009-03, 100,000 miles“I now have a problem with the transmission. The mechanic thinks it is a filter or switch that keeps the oil level in the transmission when turning right. My car shuts off when I make right turns. I have spent way too much money and still owe on this car..frankly I would like to turn it in! Has lot of repair needs too much money. I had all of the recall work done also”
NHTSA complaint #10070598, filed 2004-01, 62,000 miles“Just had our second $350 ignition lock replacement in 2000 Ford Focus w/ 44000 miles on it. I talked to the service manager at sarasota Ford who stated that honestly, you're the first one I've seen . Well, I've been (belatedly) reading through web sites with loads of the same complaint!!!”
NHTSA complaint #10095561, filed 2004-10, 44,000 miles“The main concern I have is that I have had this car in 4 times now for rear wheel bearings. My other issue is that when the actuator in the rear drivers door went out that all the locks and windows freeze up in the locked position it that is where they were at when it dies. Not the key, manually or remote will wor. This to me is a saftey issue, you could potentially be locked into your vehicle with no way out.”
