“The major problem was the head gasket failure (after 100,000 miles) with the engine needing to be replaced. I was not notified at any time regarding this recall. Ford denies that this problem was a recall and that it was my fault that the engine went since I do not do all my repairs at the Ford dealership and if I had, I would've been notified of the head gasket failure problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #10070954, filed 2004-01, 110,000 miles“I was driving my 1994 Ford Mustang gt, with 5.0 v8 engine, on interstate 64 in richmond va. I was in 5th gear driving at approximately 65 MPH when the engine suddenly stopped operating. I downshifted the car into 4th gear hoping to restart the engine. The engine did not restart after I released the clutch. I immediately started to pull off to the side of the road when I saw orange flames shooting out from underneath the hood. I stopped the car and retrieved my fire extinguisher from the trunk. …”
NHTSA complaint #10175201, filed 2006-12, 81,000 miles“The contact owns a 1994 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the fuel tank separated from the strap. The contact inspected the vehicle himself and found that the fuel tank and straps failed due to corrosion. The contact was unable to install the new fuel tank due to severe corrosion to the fuel tank mounting area. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 124,000.”
NHTSA complaint #10993686, filed 2017-06, 124,000 miles“Fuel-tank filler-pipe gasket has apparently failed. Problem has gradually worsened over time. Can not pump more than a few gallons into tank or fuel leaks out rapidly; fumes even enter car. Investigated problem and discovered failed gasket, which seems an odd design choice in place of simple welded pipe stem, given inevitable vibration of components.”
NHTSA complaint #10088346, filed 2004-08“While driving on highway at 65 vehicle would stall and shut completely down without any warning. After about 30 or longer it will start back up again. Took to mechanic, and they put in a fuel filter, and did a compression check. Everything looked good, but problem with stalling was still there.”
