Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The speedometer in 1998 Mustang stopped working intermittently. It will sometimes gauge speed incorrectly, and tell I am going about 85 MPH when I am doing anywhere from 15-30 MPH. Then it will all of a sudden stay on 0 MPH. Sometimes turning the car off and restarting it resets it, other times it does not. I would say that the speedometer doesn't work accurately about 50% of the time. There was nothing that lead up to this happening, it just started one day. There is no way to tell if it is going to work when I turn it on or not. …”

NHTSA complaint #10145429, filed 2005-12, 88,000 miles

“Well, I don't know if it's the car seat or the car model but when I install the base of the car seat on the car I tighten it as much as I can and the car seat snaps firm on it but the base is not firm on the car and one time the whole thing flipped over when I made a slow turn. (related vehicle information: model year=1998, make=Ford, model=Mustang).”

NHTSA complaint #10396851, filed 2011-04

“Service engine light comes on and stays on for a period of time then goes off. This has been happening for sometime before warranty expired but has not been taken to a dealer to be checked. Rear suspension feels as if the shock absorbers have already failed, causing harder than normal shocks specially when hitting small bumps or deeps on the road. Key gets stock on the ignition when parking and attempting to remove the key. Vehicle has been in two different dealers in an attemp to correct the failure but it continues to happen. …”

NHTSA complaint #745236, filed 2001-05

“Driving at any speed engine check light keeps coming on. Vehicle loses a lot of fuel. Contacted dealer to see if they would correct the promblem, but they won't. The oil is leaking from the engine.”
