NHTSA complaint #10017900, filed 2003-04, 58,000 miles“I put the car in neutral and pulled the emergency brake. I then waited to make sure the brake was going to hold the car and then I ran in the house. 3-4 minutes later the emergency brake gave way and the car rolled into a tree. Airbags did not deploy.”
NHTSA complaint #736204, filed 2000-11“Vehicle was parked in by driveway when emergency brake slipped and the car rolled hitting a tree. Ford refuses to reimburse me for damages and the car rental. I was never contacted about the open recall on my vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #751126, filed 2001-08“The parking brake handle pulls all the way to the top with no resistance and doesnt set brake. I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer yet because I'm trying to find a new dealer to go to.”
NHTSA complaint #734183, filed 2000-10“Hand applied parking brake does not fully engage and at time does not engage at all after several attempts. On 11/11/99 while parked on a mild grade I exited the vehicle with the parking brake apparently engaged but with the transmission out of gear. Returning to the vehicle 10 minutes later I found that it had rolled back about 100 feet, jumped a curb and come to rest against a heavy rubber trash can. The hand brake was still in the fully engaged position. As a result of the collision with a trash can the rear facia is bent.”
