“I have a 1993 Ford Taurus 3.0 v6. I have read about the 3.8 v6's with head gasket problems. At just 71000 miles I have the same problem. I purchased this vehicle from my parents, who bought it new. My father is a retired nyc transit authority mechanic, and he was meticulous about the upkeep of his vehicles. Now I am face with an automobile that is nothing more than a huge paperweight.over the last few years it seems that I was just throwing good money after bad. A couple of hundred here, $700 for a complete overhaul of the A/C system, etc. …”

NHTSA complaint #10070825, filed 2004-01, 63,000 miles

“Our 1993 Taurus with a 3.8l head gaskets blew. Fixed twice and wasn't covered by recalls. (1994-95 Taurus) A/C went out for unknown reason. Too expensive to fix. Still not working. Window died in winter. Too expensive and power cut from switch”

NHTSA complaint #10069485, filed 2004-01, 75,000 miles

“Many times since I have owned this car, the windshield wipers would freeze in motion while in use. By turning the switch they will un-freeze. This intermittant problem has occurred in all, but in the low position. In the last few days, I had the switch replaced. Artical in the newspaper precipitated this filing.”

NHTSA complaint #704987, filed 1999-03

“Relative to your case # pe99015, my windshield wipers have intermittently failed for the past 18 months. I believe the problem is similar to the one described in your investigation and wanted to register my problem as well. The wiper unit is the original manufacturer's model.”

NHTSA complaint #704782, filed 1999-03

“Driver's side windshield wiper came off in heavy rainstorm and was trapped in air intake. I pulled over and put it back on. I didn't report it earlier because I thought it was a freak occurrence, but I read today in ibd that it is a common defect in the 1993 Ford Taurus.”
