“My fuel gauge occasionally registers as empty even after I fill the gas tank. This typical happens if I let the fuel go below 1/4 tank. This has happened since the first 30,000 miles and I was told by the dealership there was no recall or safety alert for this condition. It gradually goes up as I drive. It is my understanding this is a common problem with this vehicle and model year.”

NHTSA complaint #11415629, filed 2021-05, 30,000 miles

“I was driving at roughly fifty MPH when engine shutoff and put vehicle into neutral to pullover avoiding rear end crash by semi truck I attempted to start vehicle but vehicle engine locked without any warning I called dealer and towed into service and it was something internal in engine and told to wait for more info.”

NHTSA complaint #10695220, filed 2015-03, 10,500 miles

“My car ran out of gas without any warning. I looked up my VIN number and its not included in the recall however it should be included. I've been driving for over 20 years and never ran out of gas before. There is an issue with my fuel gauge and Gmc is not recalling my vehicle, and considering Gmc's recent past regarding recalls I believe Gmc is continuing this trend of not recalling the vehicles that it should.”

NHTSA complaint #10587202, filed 2014-05, 8,000 miles

“I was driving to go meet my husband for lunch when all of a sudden my vehicle started to jerk and turned off. I turned out of traffic onto the first side street I found. Onstar found my location and sent a tow truck. Despite my vehicle reading I had 1/4 tank of as, I had actually ran out of gas. I have never ran out of gas in a vehicle. Several other times my gas hand would read inaccurately. For instance, my hand might show 1/2 tank of gas, but all of a sudden it would jump to 3/4 tank of gas. …”

NHTSA complaint #10593637, filed 2014-05, 1,450 miles

“Started noticing the gas gauge wasn't accurate. I started out with 1/4 tank of gas and drove not even a mile and the low fuel light came on and the needle was on empty. Panicked and drove to the nearest gas station and I pulled up to the pump and my gas reappeared. Another time I filled the tank and drove approximately 5 miles and it went from full to 3/4 of a tank. Went in the store, came out and started it and it was full again. This has happened several times and once resulting in running out of gas although it showed there was gas. …”
