“The ABS and break system warning light has been coming on and staying on. I lost my breaks leaving a parking spot at my local walmart as I was pulling out of a parking spot! We then made appointment for the break system to be checked/repaired. The ABS control system light went off for awhile but then comes back on even after the repair of said repair to break lines. My truck also has no fuel gauge that does not work. With these issues on my vehicle makes it very scary to drive and makes driving limited. …”
NHTSA complaint #11288368, filed 2019-12, 98,000 miles“Two things started to happen 1. The truck when coming to a stop of a speed of less then 25 MPH started to lose its brakes and feel spongy. This continued until I got it in the shop which was about two days. 2. The truck started to run very rough and the engine light was coming on at the same time as well. After I got it in the shop and they got it up on a lift they found that all of the brake lines and fuel lines were all most rusted through and starting to leak. …”
NHTSA complaint #10487149, filed 2012-12, 98,000 miles“Gas gauge goes to empty without warning, even after filling up the tank. Low fuel warning stays on when on empty, even when there's plenty of gas in the tank. This should not be happening, Gmc should take care of there customers. This is my second Gmc truck, and I bought this one because of the quality my 1st truck was good. My wife wants me to buy a toyota next time, that's all she ever owned. Gmc take care of this problem, or I'll won't be coming back for a 3rd.”
NHTSA complaint #10171935, filed 2006-10, 70,111 miles“I own a 2001 Gmc SIERRA 1500. I have always taken exceptional care of my vehicle. The motor has always had a knock when you start it,which devalues the truck & it also has always used oil. The rack & pinion has started leaking. I have always owned a truck & have never had a rack & pinion go out let alone at 152000 miles.it also is losing antifreeze but there are no leaks. The fuel gauge has never worked properly, now its also flashes low coolant light when its not low. I have seen numerous complaints on line concerning these same issues & lawsuits. …”
NHTSA complaint #10381712, filed 2011-02, 152,000 miles“First thing was that my gas gauge started to fluctuate. Up until the point that I didn't know how much fuel I had in my tank. Then my instrument cluster started to go. It started to fluctuate then dies from time to time. Rpm's , speed, gas, oil press, park, neutral, reverse, drive, 1,2,3, and miles driven cannot see anymore. Everything died the first time when I was driving home from work in the middle of the night on a dark road. Called dealer and dealer said it will cost me almost $600, which is ridiculous considering the fact that I just paid off the vehicle. …”
