“My vehicle died going up a small hill for no reason.... Like it stalled but I had to restart the vehicle... Also the stereo doesn't work I think it could be electrical or the ignition switch? Seen on youtube I'm not the only one that this is happening to. It stalls almost and doesn't propel in fifth at I have to down shift and go back to 5th and tei again... Sometimes it works other times I try 2 or three time to keep it accelerating. The hill thing was scary. What did it mean?”
NHTSA complaint #11280200, filed 2019-11, 201,000 miles“Pulled up to a boulevard stop in a subdivision; made a complete stop and then made a left-hand turn. Auto began accelerating to a tremendous speed and I was unable to stop it. Within 2 blocks, I turned off the ignition and shifted into park and auto kept on accelerating. I came to a dead end and had to made a left turn and, at the speed I was going, the turn ended up a 2-wheel turn. After about 50 feet the auto finally came to a stop.”
NHTSA complaint #10594384, filed 2014-05, 39,900 miles“I'm driving 427 south (toronto) late evening, and I approach someone who is driving 80 km/hr, so I decide to overtake the car. I change a lane, accelerate for couple seconds, and when I release a gas pedal, my car doesn't slow down, it continues to accelerate on its own, and engine is running violently, it reaches max rpms (I think it's 5000 rpms), and than a computer drops rpms down. So, nothing is pressing a gas pedal, and the engine pulling like crazy, car is accelerating, and highway is over in 5 seconds. …”
NHTSA complaint #10994932, filed 2017-06, 125,000 miles“I was driving on the interstate, moved into the left lane and attempted to pass, stepping down on the gas to accelerate. Suddenly my (automatic) transmission slipped completely out of gear, my tachometer red-lined as the engine revved hard, and the card decelerated rapidly. I was nearly hit from behind but fortunate that the driver behind me was paying attention. I slowed rapidly, but my brake lights didn't come on, because I wasn't braking! My car slowed to dangerously low speeds in the left lane of the highway. …”
NHTSA complaint #10683127, filed 2015-02, 120,156 miles“Upon entering the expressway (from the entrance ramp), I engaged the accelerator (gas pedal) to transition into existing traffic. Upon reaching an adequate speed, I quickly began to approach a car in front of me (this was during morning rush hour). I needed to apply a bit of pressure to the brakes to react to flow of traffic - and upon taking my foot off the brake, realized that my car was still accelerating. I quickly reapplied pressure to the brakes and tried to use my left foot to un-jam the accelerator. …”
