“You need to recall the transmissions in these vehicles its ridiculous how expensive they are no normal person can afford this fix. Nobody in wayne county even wants to work on it. O cant afford a new transmission. I just bought this car. It's only at 120k . I love my Jeep. But it is nothing but stress and depression. It is not right man.”

NHTSA complaint #11203270, filed 2019-04, 12,200 miles

“Over the past 2 years, the Jeep Patriot will stutter when shifting gears. It has progressively gotten worse. I had a mechanic look at it twice and he believes that the only fix is to replace the transmission. Once I got online, I found that many people have had the same issue the the CVT transmission used in these vehicles. Additionally, Jeep must know that the CVT is flawed, because they stopped the use of it in 2014.”

NHTSA complaint #11299277, filed 2020-01, 73,000 miles

“I purchased my 2011 Jeep Patriot from kraft nissan november 16, 2013. When I initially purchased it they printed out the vehicle history report showing that the vehicle has never been in accidents and that there was only one previous owner. Since my purchase I complied with every scheduled servicing and hadn't had any major problems. …”

NHTSA complaint #10614789, filed 2014-07, 51,000 miles

“The transmission frequently overheats on trips over 1 hours or where highway speed limits are higher than 70 MPH. There is a field for the date of when this happened below; however, it has happened several times. I have to pull off of the road and let it set for about 15 to 20 minutes before I can continue the trip.”

NHTSA complaint #10808687, filed 2015-12, 76,000 miles

“I own a 2011 Jeep Patriot and the transmission has already gone out! It happened immediately. No warning, nothing. I was driving on the freeway and heard a loud winding noise. I could not accelerate at all. I pulled off the freeway and turned the car off. When I turned the car back on I was able to accelerate, but for only a mile or so. Then no acceleration and I could not reverse. The car has 160k miles.”
