“2007 Jeep wrangler four door. When driving at highway speed and during a turn if you encounter a small bump the vehicle suddenly shakes to the point where you lose control in the turn. It is known as the death shake to the dealerships. They knew what was wrong before I had finished my sentence to them. Bad front shock stabilizer. They are poorly manufactured.”
NHTSA complaint #10224697, filed 2008-04, 22,000 miles“Abs, traction control and esp lights all went on and stayed on. I do not believe that any of these systems was working, as the vehicle spun out at under 40 miles per hour on damp pavement the day after lights went on. Took vehicle to dealership, and was told it was a wiring problem. Charge was more than $300.00. Told I had to pay because I had more than $36,000 miles on vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #10255986, filed 2009-01, 40,800 miles“As I was driving down the highway, I hit a bump and my whole Jeep rapidly rattled back and forth across the road, nearly causing multiple accidents. It startled me severely, and I slammed on my brakes, slowly decelerating. It took until I got down to 25mph for it to stop shimmying. I pulled off the highway into the nearest gas station, checked my tire pressure and made sure there were no identifiable obtrusions that would affect performance, and carried on, very cautiously. This happens quite often, sometimes going as low at 45mph, but only when something in the road knocks it off balance. …”
NHTSA complaint #10629151, filed 2014-08, 89,502 miles“I was driving with friends when I noticed that the vehicle was not functioning properly. Overheating, AC stopped working, and an odd speed fluctuation. I informed the people I was with that I was going to drive to the main road. Before I got there, about 50 feet, the whole vehicle was engulfed in flames. The flames went over the top of the Jeep. Luckily the flames died down briefly enough for me to jump out . I lost everything in the Jeep and the Jeep itself. Upon contacting Jeep, they said it wasn't their fault rather it was my fault. Clearly something malfunctioned and I almost lost my life.”
NHTSA complaint #10629214, filed 2014-08, 42,000 miles“I was driving a 2007 Jeep wrangler and the low tire pressure light came on. I filled the tires to the specified amount and drove down the road. The Jeep all of a sudden violently shook back and fourth to the point I could barley hold on to the steering wheel. I was able to stop the vehicle, visually check the wheels and drive away and problem went away. I believe what I experienced was the death wobble. Now recently my father was driving the same Jeep and it happened to him 3 times on a road trip without the tire pressures being changed. …”
