“Tire valve failure in Jeep wranglers. This is a known issue across the online chat boards. I own a 3 year old Jeep wrangler and the tire valve crumbled in my hands when trying to inflate the tire to correct pressure. Apparently the metal used in the tire valve degrades easily and even the dealership is well aware of this constant repair. After failure of the tire valve, the tire deflates quickly. It can start with a hairline crack down the valve stem or just break off across the valve by the tire rim. …”

“Hit small bump on expressway causing 2008 Jeep wrangler unlimited to shake violently like the wheels were loose. I had to immediately get off the expressway to check wheels. This could have caused an accident by the initial reaction is to slow down and would have caused a chain reaction (crash). After inspecting vehicle shaking had stopped.”

NHTSA complaint #10565242, filed 2014-02, 35,700 miles

“Got low air warning from TPMS. Went to gas station checked pressure it was 28psi. Attempted to add air and stem broke completely off. Went to dealer and had to replace stem. I see that this is a common occurrence in cold weather for numerous chrysler and Jeep branded vehicles with TPMS. This is a safety issue that could happen while driving or leaves people stranded.”

NHTSA complaint #10373241, filed 2010-12, 22,469 miles

“The contact owns a 2008 Jeep wrangler 4x4 with bridgestone dueler a/t tires, size 255/80r18. The contact stated that the front right tire lost air pressure on a regular basis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a valve stem was replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. The current mileage was approximately 24,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10323436, filed 2010-04, 20,000 miles

“2008 wrangler 4 door. Front wheel oscillation occurs between 35 & 50 MPH when the vehicle travels along uneven road surfaces and hits a pothole on the rhs. Front end suspension oscillation intensifies as speed increases rendering steering forces that exceed human strength. The sensation that is generated is that the front end goes in one direction whilst the wheels go in the opposite direction. Squealing from the tires results in visible skid marks on most road surfaces. …”
