“The fuel system does not seem to respond to the shut-off mechanism, which means gas spills out onto the ground, the car and even the owner. This problem has gone on ever since I purchased the car. This is definitely something that could very well cause someone to get hurt or dead. I understand the nhts has 'reviewed' the complaint and determined that there is not a problem but it will be fair if the nhts could re-open this case.”

NHTSA complaint #11012985, filed 2017-08, 49,951 miles

“Every time I refill my gas tank it overflows all over the ground. This has happened since I owned the car in 2010 to most recently yesterday on 3/12/19. Based on production there are more the 2.1 million Jeep wranglers on the road according to production numbers. It seems that this is a decent environmental issue if it occurs on most if not all jks. Any jk owner I have talked to has this same issue. Chrysler should be held responsible for this failed aspect of the vehicle”

NHTSA complaint #11186557, filed 2019-03, 47,000 miles

“During fueling my vehicle expels fuel from the fill receptacle at the time the nozzle clicks off. My vehicle build date is april of 2008 and is subsequently not covered by TSB 14-001-011 which addresses this same issues in jeeps built from march of 2007 to march of 2008.”

NHTSA complaint #10862110, filed 2016-04, 71,780 miles

“Every time I fill up my gas tank it overflows all over the side of the Jeep, ground, etc. I'm not talking a little drip. It gushes out. I have tried different gas stations. I have tried locking the lever in the slowest position thinking maybe I'm filling it too fast. I have tried positioning the nozzle further in and further out. Nothing seems to help.”

NHTSA complaint #10381292, filed 2011-02, 45,000 miles

“Every time I fill up my 08 jk Jeep wrangler with gas, the gas shut off happens, but gas comes pouring out of the tank. Usually about a half gallon is wasted, and causing environmental damage. It's annoying, dangerous, smelly and has never happened with any other vehicle I've owned. Read a lot on line and realize this is a manufacturer defect, happening to many others.”
