“Mode selector for the HVAC system has a major issue melting the selector, harness and control module. After researching this incident online and to my surprise there is no recall on this subject. Heater not working, possible heater system catching on fire do hi voltage to the mode selector witch causes entire HVAC failure and possible fire. Jeep has known about this for a while but no one seems to be getting on them about it. Again 2000 Jeep Wrangler heater control failure.”

NHTSA complaint #10371872, filed 2010-12, 65,000 miles

“2000 Jeep Wrangler. The wiring to the A/C control switch shorts out and causes a minor fire. The switch has been replaced and it happened again. There was evidence of a previous fix in spliced wiring. The wiring harness is no longer available. Research on Jeep related web sites has proven to me that this is not an isolated incidence and occurs in many of the surrounding model years. There is a design flaw in the three posts that connect to the selector switch, they are to close to each other.”

NHTSA complaint #10373803, filed 2011-01, 145,000 miles

“The fan blower malfunctioned ,which resulted in the heater/defroster system only operating in the high setting. Consumer spoke to dealership by phone, who indicated that he had seen a lot of this failure, but there was no recall. Urged consumer to contact the manufacturer. However, manufacturer provided no assistance.”

NHTSA complaint #10105312, filed 2004-12, 50,000 miles

“Consumer put vehicle in drive & it went into reverse. Dealer replaced the master cylinger because while braking pedal went to floor, consumer later heard a noise while braking, dealer lubricated and adjusted rear drums. Rear glass was chipped and was replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #875032, filed 2000-11

“Water leaks under the dash on the drivers side if driving at hiway speeds. Transmission pops out of gear at take off and is hard to shift after the vehicle is driven and warmed up.”

NHTSA complaint #734916, filed 2000-10
