Example complaints

One per model year, chosen for length and detail. Personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

2003: “I started smelling gas in the car cabin. There was gas on my driveway as well. The gas sign started to flash on my dash and the check engine light came on. Went to the dealership and they said there was a major leak in the purge system. They quoted me $3066.88. They should take responsibility and not pass it on to me.”

NHTSA complaint #10556255, filed 2013-12, 88,900 miles

2008: “The car exudes a very strong smell of gasoline. The gasoline odor is so strong that I can no longer park the car in the garage of our house as the fumes are so overpowering they seep into the home living areas and cannot be tolerated (breathing). Overall, the gas fumes are strong enough that I do fear that something external (cooking, water heater pilot light) could possibly cause spontaneous fume ignition/fire.”

NHTSA complaint #10552828, filed 2013-11, 83,633 miles

1996: “Performing maintenance on the car, I noticed that the main engine electrical harness was almost completely deteriorated. The insulation on individual wires had rotted off, leaving exposed wiring. I noticed arching when power was applied. This is very dangerous and could result in a fire.”

NHTSA complaint #10465991, filed 2012-07, 133,000 miles
