“Dropped my car off for service at the dealership and they later called to say the engine had caught fire when they were test driving the car. An inspector from the insurors service bureau determined that a rodent infestation was the cause and that a nest had been built in the exhaust header. I have since seen several other owners reporting fires in the engine compartment and believe there might be a design defect that allows animals access to an internal location where engine heat ignites their nesting material.”

NHTSA complaint #10321624, filed 2010-03, 8,900 miles

“There is a smell, like really dirty socks from the dash. It does not happen every time the car is used. To smell it you have to start the car and it is there. Sometimes the heater is on or the air. It also becomes less noticeable with time, up to 10 minutes. It is a very strong smell. I don't believe it is the catalytic converter, which has a different smell like rotten eggs. Because it goes away most the time I don't think is a dead mouse or something like that. It is not a dead animal smell. Help. You want to jump out of the car the first time you smell it. …”

NHTSA complaint #10433495, filed 2011-10, 45,000 miles

“In nov. 2012 coolant began to leak from cracked radiator. Replaced original radiator with new aftermarket radiator. In feb. 2013 coolant began slow leak from radiator crack and had replaced again with new aftermarket radiator. In may2013 coolant began leaking from radiator, replaced with new aftermarket radiator in june 2013.”

NHTSA complaint #10523131, filed 2013-07, 32,000 miles

“2007 Pontiac G6 gt convertible 3.9 v6 malfunction of exhaust system behind the catalytic converters causes a loud whistle at 2-3k RPM and reduction in performance and fuel efficiency. This is a known issue and reported on the internet with this particular sport exhaust on this model and engine. It begins at approximately 50k miles. The GM dealer nor Pontiac will address and fix. Cost of repair to consumer, $1500.00. Only solution is to replace exhaust assembly from the flex pipe back.”

NHTSA complaint #10401164, filed 2011-05, 52,000 miles

“2007 Pontiac G6 experienced oil-leak from front-crank and oil-pan areas. Gaskets had to be replaced. Mileage when first noted was 20,000-miles. Dealer scheduled appointment and performed replacement as needed. Warranty-work.”
