“I am having dashboard melting problem in Toyota Camry 2008. It looks like not only me having this problem but it is most likely majority of the people who own the Toyota Camry. It is not only safety hazard when you drive in the sunlight but also bring question on product quality and it's brand name. Toyota should immediately recall and resolve this problem asap.”
NHTSA complaint #10678449, filed 2015-01, 90,000 miles“About a year after we bought our Camry, we noticed that the dash panel was starting to get sticky. We tried wiping it down but it did not work and has continually gotten worse. It also creates a tremendous glare that makes it very hard to see out of the windshield. It is definitely a safety hazard for drivers as well as a ugly and nasty eyesore.”
NHTSA complaint #10630423, filed 2014-09, 15,000 miles“The front dashboard is melting. It is becoming very sticky (even with a sunshade) and shiny during warmer days. When it is shiny, the glare can get very bad and I have had to get polarized sunglasses to block the glare. I am reporting this issue after learning that many other cars of this same make and model are having the same issue.”
NHTSA complaint #10638125, filed 2014-09, 87,000 miles“Since the temperature started to rise here in tx, my 2008 Camry dashboard has become extremely sticky. When I tried cleaning it, I noticed that my finger nail chipped away pieces of the dashboard. While trying to wipe the dashboard, the rag is also sticking to the dashboard. This is very concerning to me, I've never encountered this. This is clearly a manufacturer defect.”
NHTSA complaint #10616159, filed 2014-07, 70,000 miles“The dashboard of our 2008 Toyota Camry has a residue on it. We have tried cleaning it, however the more you touch the dashboard, holes appear. The dash seems to disintegrate. The glare on the dashboard is a hazard while driving. We were told by the dealership that the vehicle is out of warranty. There are several websites of people having the same issue with this same model.”
