“I was stopped in traffic and had my foot on the brake RPM shot up to 6 and the engine was racing and wanted to lunge forward. I hurried and shifted to neutral luckily I had a little space in front of me or else I may have hit the person in front of me. I had my wife in the car with me and she was scared thought that we were going too have a accident.”

“When you drive car for more than 20 - 30 minutes the shift solenoid lock gets extremely hot; the higher the speed the hotter it gets. I mentioned it at the Toyota dealership when I brought my car in. The mechanic said it didn't get hot for him but he didn't drive it over 45 MPH and only for 10 - 15 minutes; but then he offered up the part name, I.e., shift solenoid lock. He told me to follow all the recalls and that I could file a complaint.”

NHTSA complaint #10534421, filed 2013-08, 67,735 miles

“The warning lights went on and immediate the vehicle shut down while I was traveling a city street in san francisco, california (dewey blvd). Fortunately the street is fairly level and I wasn't on a hill. I loss power to the brake, steering and everything as everything was dead. I was able to coast to a curb putting all my effort to stop the car. I tried starting and moved about 10 feet before everything went dead again. I did not move it further I called for a tow (aaa) and the initial diagnosis was that the alternator was dead. …”

NHTSA complaint #10592617, filed 2014-05, 119,442 miles

“2008 Toyota Camry suddenly lost power in 5th gear (manual transmission). Steering wheel lost control. At the time the incident happened, the road was dry and the engine was running. I was lucky because no one was near me so I did not hit any other car. The incident happened during morning commute. Afterward, I tested my car on a different road at noon and the car still feel sluggish at 5th gear. By evening time, the 5th gear recovered some more power.”
