“While driving across nebraska (possibly just inside wyoming) heading to colorado on sun june 29th, on I-80 (very long, 80mph speed-limit highway), my Camry with 215,000 miles suddenly gave a 'check hybrid engine' code, which caused the gas-pedal to be unresponsive. The check engine symbol also came on. The electronic 'trip information' data-graphic showed my hybrid battery was down to one pink-line suggesting low-power in the hybrid battery. I was able to pull over smoothly. …”

“Leaving home in my 2009 Toyota Camry; while pulling out of my driveway (forward, not reverse) the accelerator stuck in a high RPM mode; the car bolted across the street, hit a ditch and caused major damage to my car including air bag deployment; all this happened while I was trying to brake, but the stuck accelerator was at too high an RPM for the car to stop.”

NHTSA complaint #10301923, filed 2010-01, 8,000 miles

“As I was pulling into the curb to park, my 2007 Toyota Camry accelerated and crashed into a building in quakertown, pa. I put it into reverse and stopped the car. Damage to the brick building was extensive. Property damage amounted to $14,500 and auto damage at $750. Replacement parts were installed in the auto. Brickwork and interior damage was taken care of.”

NHTSA complaint #10311814, filed 2010-02, 18,000 miles

“There is a few seconds delay when depressing the accelerator pedal on my '07 Camry se. I have mentioned this problem with the car from the very beginning to others who say they also have that issue with their Camry. Any delay in acceleration is a safety hazard on the highway. Now with all the defects that Toyota seems to have been denying with the acceleration system I realize it is even more grave.”

NHTSA complaint #10314235, filed 2010-02, 30 miles

“Camry 2007 se v6. Acceleration problems, hesitates at take off, transmission slips like its searching for a gear, smell from A/C. Engine ticks when I take off and don't let it warm up even though its warm outside. Had problems with tires, had them replaced. Loud road noise car not very sound proof. Feels like steering wheel sticks for just a second long enough to scare me like someone is holding it.”
