“While switching lanes from left to right at a stoplight about 10 feet behind the car in front, as I took my foot off the brake the car suddenly, unexpectedly accelerated and my front driver's side hit the rear passenger side of the car in front of me. We have experienced this unanticipated acceleration at least 6-7 times in diverse circumstances.”

NHTSA complaint #10872662, filed 2016-06, 140,000 miles

“On or about jan. 25, 2010, I was parking my 2005 Toyota Camry on the street in front if my house. As I put it into reverse to back into the parking space, it suddenly surged backward incredibly fast. The only thing that stopped it was the car parked behind me. No damage was visible on the other car; but my bumper was scratched and cracked. It scared me.”

NHTSA complaint #10313942, filed 2010-02, 36,681 miles

“I have a 2005 Toyota Camry and I have been complaining about the transmission shifting since about 6 months after I bought it. They told me that they would reflash the computer that controls it and that should fix the problem. It has not. Am I going to have a run away vehicle next? The car drags and then goes fast. They did not seem to do anything, but give me lip service.”

NHTSA complaint #10317301, filed 2010-03, 565 miles

“I have a 2005 Camry. The car started off fine and within a minute it did not accelerate even with the gas pedal down all the way. The engine check light was on and I let it idle for 10 mins. It started running fine and there was no longer the check engine light. Now the car was able to accelerate. 4 days later, I stopped at a traffic light and made a turn to the left and the car slowed down and did not accelerate thereafter.”

NHTSA complaint #10310370, filed 2010-02, 72,000 miles

“2005 Toyota le v6 has noticeable acceleration problems at low to mid speeds. This is very dangerous. The vehicle has been to the dealer couple of times and Toyota currently has no fix, according to the dealer. The problem is caused by the fly by wire. This also causes problems with transmission shifting. I bought this vehicle new in august, 2005 . The problem has been there since I bought the vehicle new and still continues to date.”
