“Brake pedal is stuttering at quick stops. When traffic light turns yellow and I press down brake firmly, the brake works, then releases by itself. I have to quickly press it again to actually stop vehicle. This stutter causes the car to lurch forward a few feet. It's a bit scary to not have control over braking appropriately. Should be a recall on brakes!!!! Dangerous!!! Happening consistently for last 3 months!!!”

NHTSA complaint #11180591, filed 2019-02, 120,000 miles

“When I reversed from a parking space the car accelerated so rapidly I couldn't control the speed. I had to slam on the brake as hard as I could! Tried to return to parking spot. The car continued to accelerate it jumped the curb and was stopped by trees!! Absolutely terrifying!!”

NHTSA complaint #10990746, filed 2017-05, 180,000 miles

“March 19th 2016, driving on a city street when the car suddenly accelerated. Applied the brakes/emergency brake. Car continued to accelerated and I attempted to enter freeway. I was unable to turn the steering wheel and I hit a car that was entering the freeway.”

NHTSA complaint #10862823, filed 2016-05, 100,000 miles

“I own a 2005 Toyota Camry and every time I brake on ice or snow my brakes make a loud grinding and vibrating noise. I reported the concern to the dealership several times and they continue to say it's normal ABS working like they should. I have never had a car that has ever made this type of grinding sound when braking in the snow. We also own a corolla and it doesn't make this sound.”

NHTSA complaint #10306792, filed 2010-02, 25,000 miles

“It is surprising that there is only now publicity about Toyota brakes. I have a 2005 Toyota Camry. If I hit a bump or goes over washboard pavement while braking, the brakes go out for a second or so. Bought the car new and said something about the problem early on but was told that nothing was found to be wrong. I just learned to live with it over the years. I like the car and have not regrets on the purchase.”
