“My automatic emergency braking system has been going off even when a car is nowhere near, today I was involved in an accident due to the automatic emergency braking system. When going to yield, the warning light came on, and it felt like the car stalled, I could not manually brake and it resulted in me rear ending the person in front of me.”
NHTSA complaint #11394377, filed 2021-02, 39,360 miles“The car comes to a complete stop while driving. I was driving on a business street route , day was clear. Traveling in motion at 45-50 MPH. The red brake light comes on and immediately stops the car. I have taken to the dealership and they have seen the stopping on the computer and said nothing was wrong. This happened again today almost causing an accicdent again”
NHTSA complaint #11302372, filed 2020-01, 25,000 miles“While driving the car refused to stop. It was very hard to press the brake, and it would not stop. Initially it would not go in park or neutral. After circling the parking children in fear, it went in park and came to an abrupt stop. Apon taking it to a mechanic I was told I need to replace the brake vacuum pump.”
NHTSA complaint #11372957, filed 2020-11, 118,590 miles“My brakes grab and jerk at low speeds. Especially when I'm backing up or pulling into a parking spot. I've taken it to the dealer and they say they are fine and the issue is normal. I've also contacted Toyota customer care and they referred me back to the dealer. I noticed via an online search; that many other drivers are reporting the same issue with no remedy offered from Toyota.”
NHTSA complaint #11112519, filed 2018-07, 300 miles“While driving about 50 mpg on the highway, the low braking power light came on. After seeing this, I attempted to slow down but the brake pedal was hard to push down and I had to push it all the way to the floor in order for my car to slow down/stop. Had my car checked by a mechanic and they said that the brake vacuum pump needed to be replaced. Based on multiple complaints regarding this issue with the brakes, Toyota needs to do a recall.”
