“I was driving around 30mph, and the car started to buck. As I approached the intersection, I pressed the brake pedal to the floor, and the car did not slow down at all. The brakes failed, and steering became very difficult. My road was ending, so I attempted to make a left. I tried to steer the vehicle to the side and hit a tree with the front end of the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10218492, filed 2008-02, 120,000 miles

“On sept. 14, 2009 I was backing up in a parking lot, to let another vehicle pass. My car suddenly began moving backward very rapidly and smashing into others vehicles and a child. I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance because my neck was hurting. I did not receive a ticket from the attending police officer, as she did not feel I did anything negligent. The car was totaled by my insurance company.”

NHTSA complaint #10316233, filed 2010-03, 92,892 miles

“Model: Toyota Camry year: 2000 problem: brake shivers or shudders when applied. It happens all the time. The car does not come to a stop as soon as the brake is applied. In fact, the car moves some distance and comes to a stop. Resolution: change parts of the brake (ever since I bought the vehicle) . This has been at least 10 times. The dealer says that it is because of how the brake is applied. I disagree. I have a honda-crv 2000 model and this does not have any problem with the brakes.”

NHTSA complaint #10306316, filed 2010-02, 110,000 miles

“I drive a 2000 Toyota Camry, and have had a few incidents previously, during the winter months of 2008-09. This concern never happens during warmer months. It happened 3 times in the same day on february 3, 2010: when approaching a t-intersection of smaller highways, when I came to a stop light controlled 4-way intersection in the town of newton, ia, and as I was slowing down to turn off the main street into a parking lot. When I pushed down on the brake pedal, it was almost like there were no brakes. …”

NHTSA complaint #10307274, filed 2010-02, 140,000 miles

“I was driving with a passenger in my 2000 Camry. I slowed down anticipating to come to a stop at a t in the road, that had a stop sign. After pushing on my brakes, if felt like the motor was fighting against the brakes and pushing me forward. I put all the pressure I could on the brakes and it kept insisting to go forward. I was lucky that I had appropriately, slowed down ahead of time for the stop sign, but still ...the car did not stop until it went through well past the stop sign, across the two lane road and finally stopped just before a cliff. …”
