“I went to my mechanic two years ago to report that my Toyota Camry 2000 had an accelerator sticking problem. They could not find the problem, assumed it was the mat, or my imagination. It wasn't. The problem still occurs but Toyota is only covering the last 7 years, is this because of warranty? What can I do? Car is otherwise fine.”

NHTSA complaint #10304194, filed 2010-02, 110,000 miles

“I own a 2000 Toyota Camry ce 4 c - and had noticed that prior to the recalls my gas pedal would stick - sometimes not allow me to press it down. To this day, occasionally (maybe once every 5th time I an accelerating) I have to virtually kick the pedal to make the car go. The car is in great shape, light use for the past 10 years, but I want to report that there is an issue with this 2000 Camry.”

NHTSA complaint #10315692, filed 2010-03, 120,000 miles

“I was braking to pull into a head-in parking spot. Even though I had my foot on the brake, the car jumped the parking guard, proceeded over the sidewalk and ran into a building. This is the only time anything like this has happened, but with all the Toyota troubles, I thought I'd better report it.”

NHTSA complaint #10318993, filed 2010-03, 50,000 miles

“While driving the car at about 40 MPH on the road, it suddenly accelerated . I applied the brake and the car kept going at the accelerated speed for about 3/4 mile. It finally slowed enough for me to turn off the road into a housing complex. I then was able to put it in park. The car kept idling at the same rate even while in park position. Smoke started coming from under the hood; therefore, I got out and within 1 minute, it went up in flames. The police & fire truck came and put out the flames. The car is a total loss.”

NHTSA complaint #11021656, filed 2017-09, 221,000 miles

“When you are at a full stop or at a red light, or stop and go traffic. When you start to mash the gas pedal down the car does not move.everyone is moving beside you and behind you and you are lucky if you don't get rear ended. So far we have been lucky.when you keep trying it will finally go. It will jerk you head back sometimes. So I thought it might be the cable on the speed control going bad. Sticking or whatever. I am not a specilist on saying what it my be.but it does need to be repaired.”
