“My 2007 Toyota Camry xle was seen at our Toyota dealership and our local mechanic about 4 times during late 2008 and 2009 for frequent high revving of the engine and rpms. No fix ever occurred. The dealership said they could not find anything. I am very concerned now with the current recall, and I'm contacting the dealership again today.”

NHTSA complaint #10304364, filed 2010-02, 20,000 miles

“I accidentally found out that my 2007 Toyota Camry is burning excessive amount of oil. When I went for an oil change at around 60000 miles, the mechanics commented that my engine oil level is very low (nearly empty). He found no signs of leaking. After the oil change, I checked the level to make sure it is full. After 600 miles, the mark is near the low end, which means about 1.2 quart consumption (according to user manual).”

NHTSA complaint #10441910, filed 2011-12, 60,000 miles

“My Camry has excessive oil usage. It uses about 1 qt every 600 miles. The problem started at approx 61000 miles. Car currently has 96,000 miles on it and I put a quart of oil in for every 2 tanks of gas. I see that Toyota issued a TSB for this problem but will only fix it under warranty. They are replacing the pistons and rings with a new design because the old design is a failure. It is an engineering/design defect and should be fixed under a recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10446396, filed 2012-02, 61,000 miles

“My Camry is burning through oil at a rate of about one quart per 1000 miles! This is not normal in the least. I know that there have been many complaints similar to mine - I sure hope that your agency can do something to address this issue with Toyota.”

NHTSA complaint #10430421, filed 2011-10, 85,000 miles

“On occasion, my 2007 Toyota Camry stalls upon acceleration. This causes extremely dangerous situation when pulling into traffic from a stop. I returned Camry to Toyota only a few days after purchase- they replaced a sensor, but car still stalls. I have returned Camry to Toyota many times for same stall issue. In fact, Toyota is in the shop now with same complaint. The issue has never been repaired.”
