“There is something seriously wrong with this vehicle's air conditioning system. It has been omitting a foul, moldy, mildewy, bad bo (body odor), musty, sour smell since only owning the vehicle for less than half a year. This is a huge safety/health issue & needs to be remedied asap. I myself have allergies & the smell blowing out from the vents on a daily basis is causing me to be very sick. I have taken the vehicle into the dealership several times & there is no permanent fix. …”

NHTSA complaint #10702356, filed 2015-03, 3,000 miles

“When starting vehicle and turning on A/C a very foul odor of mildew and mold comes from the vents. We have taken it back to the dealership for a cleaning and replaced the filter with a carbon one at the dealership at our expense. This did not fix the issue. We follow instructions of running AC in non recirculating mode to no avail. Toyota does not seen to want to take ownership of the issue. I am concerned of our health from inhaling these mold spores and bacteria.”

NHTSA complaint #10660319, filed 2014-11, 8,000 miles

“Upon acceleration after a start into a traffic lane the engine stalled. The engine did not stop, it just stalled until the speed dropped to about 5 MPH then started to accelerate normally. This incident happened two days after purchase of the vehicle. This problem has continued almost every time I operate the vehicle and cannot be predicted. Sometimes after slowing from about 45 MPH to about 20 MPH and re-accelerate, it stalls for about 2 seconds no matter what you do. It has been happening now since purchase june 11, 2014. …”

NHTSA complaint #10625698, filed 2014-08, 175 miles

“My engine is burning oil risking my safety commuting to and from work. Piston rings have gone bad even with regular oil changes. This is poorly manufactured and not a result of maintenance. Only reason I knew oil I was burning oil was because I checked it and no indicator lights would have told me before blowing the engine up entirely. That to me is a scare feeling that could have been missed!”
