Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Since obtaining the vehicle in 2009 brand new, upon breaking gradually, it surges forward slightly when it feels like it should slow down. I have brought this issue up to my local Toyota dealership who denied any such inconsistencies. Also, there have been electrical issues for the past few years when turning on the radio; after pushing any button at any time, it will randomly change the display to nonsense characters or become blank.”

NHTSA complaint #10846478, filed 2016-03, 142,675 miles

“It was in a snow storm. I felt I had been keeping a safe distance from the car in front of me (I never had an accident prior). Cars ahead slowed down suddenly. I depressed the brake pedal, could feel ABS was activated. But it could not stop the car soon enough, hit the car in front of me at the right tail light. Bumpers and tail light damaged.”

NHTSA complaint #10306075, filed 2010-02, 1,000 miles

“My 2010 Toyota Corolla often makes a loud noise coming from under the engine compartment along with friction onto the brake pedal, sometimes it occurs when driving over rough or bumpy roads or when braking in emergency (hard braking). Dealer says they have checked the car and have been unable to recreate the problem the two (2) times I have had it checked.”

NHTSA complaint #10314462, filed 2010-02, 3,500 miles

“I was driving in the morning on a very cold day and was driving around 30mph. I applied the brakes as I could see the stop light about 200 feet just came on. When I applied the brakes, the ABS brakes locked up and it took the entire 200 feet to finally get the car to stop.”
