“I was driving slowly through a school zone and suddenly my driver's side sun visor fell down. It now swings loosely and won't stay up. The car is less than three years old and only has 40k miles. The dealer said they are replacing camry's but not Corolla's. They are probably the same thing.”

NHTSA complaint #10547163, filed 2013-10, 40,000 miles

“My son received his car today that was shipped to him from maui to portsmouth,va. As he was driving back to base his passenger side mirror fell off. The inside was melted. I have pictures of the mirror. This is a fire hazard. I contacted Toyota via email about the incident. This car was purchased new and has only had routine maintenance. There is either a faulty connection or faulty part that caused this. I now worry that the car may catch fire.”

NHTSA complaint #10668478, filed 2014-12, 60,030 miles

“I was driving to work when suddenly thick smoke started appearing from the driver's side power window switch. I immediately pulled over and got out of the car. The smoke had the typical smell of burning plastic and the front passenger window slowly opened on its own. After 5 minutes, the smoke stopped and I continued to my office as it was nearby. Later in the evening, upon removing the switch, the melted plastic was clearly visible. One of the switches on the panel does not depress anymore due the melting of the plastic. …”

NHTSA complaint #10526262, filed 2013-07, 63,500 miles

“The steering of the automobile becomes difficult at highway speeds. The car continually drifts to the right and left requiring constant adjustment. Free play in the steering wheel is excessive and the wheel is stiff and unresponsive. Windshield wiper speed is not fast enough to clear the windshield in downpours.”

NHTSA complaint #10418840, filed 2011-08, 200 miles

“Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated while driving. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v340000 (air bags) and 15v689000 (visibility); however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called the dealer, Toyota headquarter in miami, fl, who stated that the remedy parts would become available in june of 2017. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. …”
