“Cruise control active, I made a speed change using the steering column lever when the engine went to 6,000 RPM in full acceleration. My speed was about 65 on a rural road prior to this event. I tapped the accelerator with no change, then the brake which cancelled the uncommanded acceleration.”

NHTSA complaint #10990484, filed 2017-05, 61,000 miles

“As I was transitioning from a stop to a slow start, the vehicle accelerated suddenly from 0 RPM to 5 RPM. I was able to slam on brakes to stop the vehicle but I almost crashed into another vehicle in the process. I was crossing a intersection - on a leveled street”

NHTSA complaint #11045238, filed 2017-11, 76,000 miles

“Since obtaining the vehicle in 2009 brand new, upon breaking gradually, it surges forward slightly when it feels like it should slow down. I have brought this issue up to my local Toyota dealership who denied any such inconsistencies. Also, there have been electrical issues for the past few years when turning on the radio; after pushing any button at any time, it will randomly change the display to nonsense characters or become blank.”

NHTSA complaint #11025132, filed 2017-09, 45 miles

“Our 2010 Corolla had a sudden acceleration problem while driving on the highway. The car was put on cruise control and shortly there after, suddenly accelerated to a frightening speed. The brake thankfully worked. We haven't used cruise control since. This was terrifying. The date is an approximation. We reported it to our dealer and they just dismissed it.”

NHTSA complaint #10312972, filed 2010-02, 3,000 miles

“In my 2010 Toyota Corolla xle with 2382 miles on it, I experienced brake failure and difficulty steering while descending down a slight grade. There was no braking action when I pushed the brake pedal as far as it could go. Simultaneously heard a loud scraping sound and detected an odor. Reported incident to the dealer immediately.”

NHTSA complaint #10317495, filed 2010-03, 2,382 miles
