Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Adaptive cruise control (acc) will not work if you remote started the vehicle. To get it normally work, you have to fully switch off the car and then push start it. Had the vehicle checked by vw dealer and they found nothing, then I noticed that remote start was the problem. Seem to me there should be some sort of a software update fix as it looks like there are no electric/electronic issues.”

NHTSA complaint #11350231, filed 2020-08, 2,600 miles

“Steering makes creaking and noise when turning even when stopped. Dealer replaced sway bar links today via TSB. Problem not fixed, dealer test drove after fix and determined it could possibly be clockspring. Others online have similar issues, some say replacement of entire rack is required, I hope not.”

NHTSA complaint #11360947, filed 2020-09, 2,000 miles

“While driving at approximately 10-15mph the engine shut off and was forced to come to a stop and restart the engine. The error read Engine start/stop error, manually restart engine. I have been reading that this is a known issue by Volkswagon but they are not addressing. Luckily my car was just going onto an offramp when the engine shut off.”

NHTSA complaint #11534606, filed 2023-07

“I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the hood-release mechanism on my 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. The interior hood-release lever/latch has failed, preventing me from opening the hood through the normal release mechanism. This creates a safety concern because I cannot access the engine compartment to check essential fluids, inspect mechanical problems, perform necessary maintenance, or address potentially dangerous conditions such as overheating, leaks, or smoke. …”

NHTSA complaint #11771831, filed 2026-10

“We purchased a Chicco Fit360 car seat approximately two weeks ago. During normal use, we discovered that the magnetic chest clip/latch on the 5-point harness can appear to be connected but is not always mechanically latched. If the two halves of the magnetic chest clip are brought together lightly/loosely, the magnets pull the clip together and it appears closed, but the latch can separate without pressing the release buttons. The issue appears to be with the magnetic chest clip/chest latch portion of the harness system. …”
