“Vehicle was in motion on a city street , while trying to make a u-turn, my vehicle gear shifted back to neutral and park . When I applied the brakes the brakes didn't work and my car was still moving forward. I pushed back the gear to park position and stopped at a curb. I couldn't start back the vehicle anymore, if it wasn't for the curb I could have hit someone or a tree and hurt myself.”
NHTSA complaint #11103930, filed 2018-06, 5 miles“I was driving on the highway and turned on my turn signal and the car shut down. The emergency brake light came on and my power steering and brakes went out. As I tried to make my way to the side of the road, the car started running again. I was traveling at 80mph and was surrounded by others traveling at the same rate of speed. I was lucky I wasn't killed. I also have to try multiple times to start the car, and the key has to be released manually.”
NHTSA complaint #11297016, filed 2020-01, 86,000 miles“Rented the Captiva from enterprise at jacksonville, fl, airport. Engine had clattered a bit at slow speeds but not on highway. On third and last day we were driving away after a traffic light had turned green and the engine just stopped working. The car turned off. I put on the hazard lights and turned into right lane, then into a parking lot that luckily happened to be next to it. All the cars around us were moving slowly - again, luckily - because they had been stopped at the traffic light. I lost the power in steering and also the brakes. …”
