“A few months ago, I took my car into the dealer to diagnose a check airbag light. $122 later, my vehicle was found to have a faulty passenger presence module. I was quoted over $1000 in repairs and given no other options. I declined the repairs in lieu of confirming with an independent mechanic as I have had issues with that service department before regarding a faulty fuel system (which was recalled and I was not informed). …”

“Nhtsa camp # 07v344000, seat belt sensor, NHTSA camp. # 07v242000 windshield mount I have a 2007 chevy Equinox, my windshield is leaking, and my passenger side air bag keeps going on and off depending on how somebody sits in the seat. I went to google and looked up the recalls for my vehicle. And those 2 recalls listed at the top are 2 of the problems im having with my Equinox. I called chevy corporate and they told me my vehicle VIN number is not part of the recall. …”

NHTSA complaint #10984294, filed 2017-05, 120,000 miles

“We bought our son this vehicle when he got his license back in sept 2019. The front passenger seat sensor isn't working causing the passenger air bag to not be safely engaged. This is a huge safety issue and should be a recall and replaced immediately. Also, there is hardly any heat coming from the blowers. We had it in multiple times but noone can figure it out. We have replaced: heater core, water pump, thermostat, radiator, resevoir. Ect..flushed it a million times and had the heads pressure checked, nothing worked. …”

NHTSA complaint #11354595, filed 2020-09, 183,000 miles

“The passenger seat air bag sensor failed and to repair the problem the entire seat cushion and electronic module has to be replaced. This is an over $800 repair and my daughter cant afford to have it fixed. According to the dealer tech this is a common problem on several thousand Equinox, torrent and saturn ion vehicles. Imho this is a safety defect and should be repaired at no charge.”

NHTSA complaint #10911232, filed 2016-10, 110,000 miles

“The front seat passenger air bag will not come on when someone sits in the seat. I get a service air bag system on the driver info center. Took to dealer was told computer shows codes b0081 and b0074. Was told passenger presence system, namely the seat sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. Repair estimated at $1100.00. This is a common complaint in GM vehicles. The vehicle is designed to have the airbag deploy during a collision considering the use of safety belts and deformation of the vehicle's structure. …”
