“I turned the key in my car to start it, there was a very loud pop and the engine started smoking. The engine then caught fire and is totally destroyed. This car had been used 2 days prior with no issues, no safety lights on, no issues driving and it started fine that last time it was driven. The fire department has sent me a report on the cause.”
NHTSA complaint #11299084, filed 2020-01, 188,000 miles“I went to start my car, which had been parked in my driveway for a couple days, and when I turned the key I heard a loud pop and instantly saw smoke coming from under the hood. Within minutes the hood turned colors and flames started to shoot out. The whole engine compartment burned until the fire department responded and put the fire out.”
NHTSA complaint #10661557, filed 2014-12, 176,000 miles“Was driving car heard loud boom sound under hood then smoke and fire came from under hood. I put fire out but don't know if car will start scared to try. Took to felix chevy and they half assessed performed recall fixture. Said they did to best of ability now I had a fire and car was doing same thing after I took it to them.”
NHTSA complaint #10662555, filed 2014-12, 125,000 miles“I was pulling out of a parking lot and my vehicle suddenly shut off making me loose steering control and almost causing a bad accident. I managed to get the car to a stop and I restarted the ignition. I pulled off and sat in a lot for a few minutes. The next day I had the same problem while merging onto a main highway.”
NHTSA complaint #10606327, filed 2014-06, 170,000 miles“Went to start car and intake blew up, causing a large fire and pieces of the burning plastic hit my son which was standing by car. The hood was up at the time and we did get the fire out. It appears this was a fuel regulator issue and I do not show it as being due for my car. It must of been done already but this issue still happens. This is very dangerous and should not happen. I was lucky it was not worse.”
