“I was driving 35mph down my road in my Impala. The engine light came on and a traction control/reduced engine power message came on. The car suddenly slowed to 20mpg and I almost got rear ended. I was told by a mechanic that this is a hugely popular issue with this car and chevy refuses to fix it. This is dangerous as I almost lost control when this happened.”

NHTSA complaint #10586467, filed 2014-05, 58,000 miles

“I was turning off of elberton road onto veribest road & I heard the front tire made a knocking sound about 3 times while turning & continued to drive after the car felt okay, then I felt as if the car dropped or the tire was coming off & the steering wheel locked up, traction control light started to blink & the brakes went out & we crash due to me not having control of the vehicle! Me & my 3 kids were badly injured!”

NHTSA complaint #10712193, filed 2015-04, 168,000 miles

“My vehicle has had the problems of not giving me correct readings from the gauges when my car was running hot it never displayed any indication that it was which caused engine failure in my car throwing a rod I also have experience and still do when I turn on my signals my bright lights come on as well as sometimes when I open the door the lights do not come on but when I close the door they do my motor mounts on my car are not stable this was part of the problem the first time it shifted now not from wear and tear because I had an inspection done on the vehicle prior to purchasing the…”

NHTSA complaint #11363017, filed 2020-10, 148,000 miles

“Engine light came on, reduced traction control light came on, power was drastically reduced and then reduced engine power light came on. Car has a problem that needs to be addressed, but cutting off power and acceleration while I'm making a turn with oncoming traffic or driving 70+ MPH is not a safe way of addressing that problem. I can turn off the car and regain power. Nearly any other way of addressing the code would be infinitely better than killing power while driving. It is not safe.”

NHTSA complaint #10557873, filed 2013-12, 100,000 miles

“While driving the traction control light came on as well as the check engine light then reduced power so that I was driving at about 5 miles in traffic. Car then stopped and there was no power at all. I put on my hazard lights and turned the car off waited a few minutes and it started and only check engine light remained on. I was fortunate to be almost at a red light when this happened in midtown manhattan so that there was only blaring horns when I couldn't move the car. My mechanic said I need to bring the car in when the lights are on so that he can read the error messages. …”
