“Hello, I have a general question about vehicle safety as it relates to automobile recalls/safety bulletins for Chevrolet. I own a Chevrolet vehicle and have found out that there are 2 issues with my car, one of them directly related to airbags and them deploying correctly. Chevrolet has only issued a safety bulletin, and has set ridiculous limits to what they are required to cover. I want to know how the DOT has not required them to issue a recall to fix the issue on their cost. With this being related to safety I would have thought this was a very important matter. …”

NHTSA complaint #11311149, filed 2020-02, 110,000 miles

“The outboard drivers seat belt tension cable failed at the point where the cable was crimped (photos attached) which appears to be the same failure why our chevy traverse is currently being recalled, recall was issued five years ago and covered 1.4 million Chevrolet traverse, buick enclave, gmc acadia and saturn outlook vehicles built between 2009 and 2014. In this case, the seatbelt snapped while the belt was being buckled. The car had not been in any accident.”

The approximate failure mileage was 45,847.”

NHTSA complaint #10862726, filed 2016-05, 45,847 miles

“The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 45 MPH, a deer crossed the road. The contact had to make a sharp left turn to avoid the animal and crashed into a hill in the woods. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt did not restrain the driver. The vehicle sustained front end damage. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained bruised ribs, and injuries to the left arm and shoulder, which required medical attention. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. …”
